I have a USI Electric Smoke & Fire + Carbon Monoxide Alarm. It is a 10 year permanent power/battery backup. It only made it three years. I contacted the company about the warranty and they sent me the manual troubleshooting and resetting. If that doesn't work, they want me to pay to ship the detector back to them along with an $11 check for shipping so they can send me a replacement.

So I have to spend $22 in shipping for a replacement that will most likely last 3 out of the 10 years. These detectors are garbage in my opinion and the customer service is a joke. They found my email in their spam folder even though I filled out the contact info and issue on their website form. Buyer beware! Go with a more reputable company and brand which is also less expensive.

I needed to have a smoke/CO2 detector replaced, the company that built the house said their warranty coverage was over, the house is 4 yrs old, to call the manufacturer, I was going to be charged to send back the defective one which still had 2 yrs left on warranty to the states from Canada, I was told by Michelle, the customer care rep, that they would waive the shipping charge, like it was a favour she was doing me, it was a discontinued product of theirs, she would send me a replacement with an expired replacement date, brand new, if I accepted this as a replacement it would waive the two years left on the defective one, if I didn't like that I could purchase three new ones from them, I have a hearing problem and when I asked a question she became quite condescending in her reply, she was on speaker phone and even my husband found her to be rude.

I said I would buy my own replacement, she said all three would have to be replaced then, it's going to be cheaper to purchase them here in Canada, then pay US dollars cost to have three new ones shipped to me. Faulty product and I've gotta pay to ship the old one to them so they can give me one that has no warranty remaining on it and be thankful they don't charge me to ship the replacement, which the other two I have are good for another 2 yrs. Yup, good customer service. Certainly not from here.

Universal security instruments will not replace a faulty gas/co2 detector. The unit burned. I showed them evidence of the burning on the unit and they refused to replace it.
